Feathered Dinosaurs

by Jasmine Greene

In 2009, several new evidence in China further solidified how dinosaurs evolved into modern birds. One of the dinosaurs is called Anchiornis huxleyi, Anchiornis meaning "close to birds". The feathers cover the dinosaur's body and forelimbs. Original feathers were useful as insulation and it wasn't until later that more complex feather structures could be used for flight. It is possible that the Anchiornis was capable of flying or gliding. One of the most recent discoveries in China, Limusaurus inextricabillis, may help solve the mystery of how bird wings actually evolved. The dinosaur in question has four digits, the first one being greatly reduced and the second finger is enlarged.

Despite the Archaeoraptor fake in 1999, the evidence that connects dinosaurs with birds has gained traction among the paleontologist community. There have been a total of 23 feathered dinsoaurs found in the past 22 years. Many of these feathered dinosaurs used the plumage for warmth or show.

New discoveries definitely point to the dinosaur-bird theory and with more fossils appearing, the number of opposers of the theory have greatly decreased. So are chickens descended from a T-rex? Maybe not, but they certainly came from some delicious feathered dinosaur.
