Feather in Pop Culture
While feathers have many uses, they also are ever present in our pop culture, engrained in movies like Forest Gump as well as mythological heroes and villains.
Forrest Gump Feather
The feather in the beginning and end of the movie is now a well recognized intro to the famous movie. It is supposed to represent the accidental nature of human interaction and behavior.
Quill
Though we now used computers and pens, the quill still remains a symbol of a writer/scribe.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Logo
Goodyear, the guys that make the tires, incorporated the winged shoes of Hermes into their logo. Hermes was the Messenger of the Gods as well as patron of travelers, tricksters and thieves. We're guessing Goodyear was focusing on the speed aspect of Hermes.
Uhura's Fan Dance
While not considered the best movie, Star Trek V did feature Uhura's fan dance. Though most fans now do not consider the dance exciting, it was pretty risque back then.
Wishing on a Feather
Though perhaps not a custom everywhere, there's a superstition that if you catch a feather while it's falling down, make a wish and release it back into the wind, the wish will come true.
Pillow Fight
Sure, not all pillows have feathers in them, but if you want a proper pillow fight, you need to pack it full of those suckers. Pillow fights are common sleep over games, but have now wiggled their way into the adult general populace. A already occurred in 2009.
